After successfully opening in Roswell in 2022, Biggby Coffee is now eyeing 10 locations in Georgia, with three currently in development.

One of these will be in Pooler, courtesy of Scott and Jill Novinski.

With Jill’s roots in the Midwest, the Novinskis have long been familiar with Biggby Coffee. They were drawn to the brand due to its emphasis on hospitality and community engagement, which inspired them to be one of several franchisees helping Biggby Coffee expand further in Georgia.

“The hospitality and the personal service make such a difference,” Scott told What Now Atlanta. “Even as you’re ordering, people make a personal connection with you. That’s one of the things that got us interested in it.”

Scott is no stranger to the food-and-beverage industry, having worked with McDonald’s as an operations manager for 39 years. He’s excited to grow with the Biggby Coffee brand.

The Novinskis started the process of opening their own location last year. The coffee shop at 801 Pooler Parkway is expected to begin construction any day now.

“We’re looking forward to it and getting to meet the community and be involved in it,” Scott said of the upcoming location. “That’s one of the things we love about Biggby.”

After being dedicated to that location for at least six months, the opportunity is there to begin the process of opening a second. The Novinskis would like to eventually have three locations.

This is the timeline that Biggby Coffee strives to maintain, focusing mainly on single-unit deals rather than having franchisees start with multiple locations right off the bat.

“If they’re all doing well relatively quickly, they’ll open store two,” Tony DiPietro told What Now Atlanta. “It’s that spider web, but it comes off the success of those first stores. Traditionally, we don’t sell multiunits, it’s one at a time.”

DiPietro has been with Biggby Coffee for nearly 24 years, joining the team when they had four locations. From district manager to director of operations to his current role as Biggby Coffee’s vice president of emerging markets, it’s always been about relationships – with franchisees, staff members and customers.

“Coffee is one of those things, you see the same people, and they’re friends,” he said. “And that new person that comes in, that’s a great opportunity to make them a friend too.”

Biggby Coffee opened its first store in 1995 and launched franchising a year later. There are now about 379 locations of the 100 percent-franchised concept across the U.S. There are a variety of layouts, from the traditional end-cap space with indoor seating to drive-thru-only locations and kiosks.

“We can get real creative with the spaces we’re going into,” DiPietro said.

The menu aims to be approachable and non-pretentious, offering a variety of signature coffee beverages with whimsical names, like the caramel and white chocolate Teddy Bear Latte (one of Jill Novinski’s favorites), along with energy drinks, tea, hot chocolate, smoothies and food items like bagels and muffins.

DiPietro sings the praises of the caramel cold brew with sweet foam.

“I’d put our sweet foam against anybody,” he said. “It is fantastic.”

The company is striving to be 100 percent farm-direct, which they are on track to do, DiPietro said. This practice involves meeting coffee growers, sourcing coffee directly from farms and building relationships with independent farmers. Biggby Coffee co-CEO Bob Fish and his wife Michelle have traveled the world in service of this goal.

“We want to put a name and a place and a face to all our coffee,” DiPietro said.
