Permits have recently begun to ramp up for the 10-story, 201-key Thompson Hotel set to rise at the former State Bank & Trust Company branch at the intersection of East Paces Ferry Road, Buckhead Avenue, and Old Decatur Road within the Buckhead Village district.
The recent filings signal a groundbreaking may be near.
Plans to bring the boutique hotel to the Buckhead Village were first announced in 2018 and a groundbreaking was initially projected for November 2019.
State Bank & Trust Company left the site in August 2019 and relocated to Pharr Road in the old Bank of America, a branch manager told What Now Atlanta (WNA) Friday.
Representatives from Thompson Hotel Developer Regent Partners and The Loudermilk Co. did not immediately respond to WNA’s requests for an updated timeline this week.
When complete the 154,413-square-foot hotel will feature a chef-driven restaurant, lobby bar, and cafe, and a rooftop bar.
The hotel will also offer more than 8,000 square feet of meeting space and a fitness center, all at a $225 to $300 per night price point.
Atlanta-based Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio LLC is being tapped to design the hotel and it will be managed by the Thompson Hotel collection of Denver-based Two Roads Hospitality, LLC whose other locations can be found in Manhattan, Nashville, Chicago, Seattle, and Toronto.
The roughly $90 million project is expected to deliver in 2021.
Nearby in the Buckhead Village, another boutique hotel with the Kimpton name is under development.
Property management company Portman Holdings has been quietly working on converting the existing building into a boutique hotel, adding yet more luxury hotel rooms for out of town guests to the rapidly-evolving and increasingly dense Buckhead Village.
The hotel is projected to open in the first quarter of 2021.
