What Now Atlanta first broke the news of Conyers-based Nana’s Chicken-N-Waffles’ expansion to downtown Atlanta in 2019, when we wrote of the eatery’s intent to take over the space previously occupied by Army Surplus Sales on Peachtree St. As Owner Kelli Ferrell noted back then, the building needed to be converted from a retail to a restaurant space, which takes some time.

Atlanta Business Chronicle reports Nana’s has filed a building permit application for the building, which dates back to 1929, with the City of Atlanta. According to the eatery’s website, the new location is slated to open this year, although an exact date has not been announced.
Nana’s Chicken-N-Waffles aims for a family-style experience and specializes in Louisiana and Maryland cuisine. You can find recipes reaching back as far as 1939 in the form of fried green tomatoes, New Orleans Style Beignets, and Creole BBQ Shrimp & Grits, not to mention a sprawling menu of Nana’s signature waffles.
Ferrell is known for appearances on the Food Network as well as her cookbook Kooking with Kelli, which means you can try your hand at recreating the classic family recipes from Nana’s in your own kitchen.
