Fitness International LLC, the operator of LA Fitness, appears to be expanding its Club Studio brand by converting the LA Fitness at 755 Brookhaven Avenue into an outpost of its new boutique fitness brand.

Fitness International LLC debuted the concept last year, with the first Club Studio opening in Irvine. It now has several locations, with more planned for several states. The gym features studios for yoga, cycling, boxing and reformer pilates, as well as free weights, cardio equipment, a lap pool and basketball courts.

Club Studio is part of a surge of big-box gyms revamping their brands with boutique amenities and services aimed at holistic wellness. (Think on-site cafes, recovery services like cryotherapy and saunas, and specialized classes.)

The gym at 755 Brookhaven Avenue is nearly 50,000 square feet, according to construction plans detailing the conversion project. The plans show signage for “Beaming,” the juice and smoothie bar found in several Club Studio locations.

Chicago-based Studio 222 Architects is the architecture team behind the project, and Irvine-based SDA Architects + Designers is working on the interior design, according to construction documents. Both firms have partnered with LA Fitness on several prior projects.

Fitness International LLC has more than 700 locations across the country, also operating Esporta Fitness and City Sports Club in addition to LA Fitness and Club Studio.

  1. Glad to see LA Fitness reinvesting in their facilities. I’ve been a member for over 23 years and it’s past time for some repairs and upgrades in many of the gyms in the Atlanta-area.

  2. The monthly membership fee at the existing Club Studio locations: $139 in Texas, $169in VA, $189 in CA. So current LA Fitness members may get sticker shock.

    Any reporting on:
    1. When construction will start?
    2. How long construction will take?
    3. Will the location close during construction?
    4. Target date for opening of the new Club Studio location.
