A historic building in Decatur could be changing its tune, transforming from a food and gifts store into a jazz club.
A local jazz collective intends to purchase the site at 141 E Trinity Place and transform it into Phoenix City Jazz Club, Decaturish.com first reported.
Greene’s Fine Foods has been located at the building since 2008, selling nuts, candies and gifts. The family-owned shop has plans to relocate, according to the news outlet.
The jazz collective was founded by musician Will Scruggs. The club would sell musical instruments, host music lessons and include a restaurant.
Built in 1935, the building was originally the Decatur Post Office. The property south of Decatur Square is on the National Register of Historic Places.
According to LoopNet, it currently has 3,600 square feet of retail space on the main floor, approximately 3,000 square feet of basement space, and approximately 800 square feet of upstairs office/meeting space. The site includes 22 parking spaces and a commercial kitchen. The asking price is listed as $4 million.
Scruggs was born in Atlanta and began playing the saxophone at age 8. He has been a member of several musical groups, operated a private saxophone teaching studio in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta, and worked as the manager of music for Ray’s Restaurants from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2018 to 2023.
