A location of the country’s largest coffee chain is planned for 92 S Clayton Street, according to a permit application with Gwinnett County.
The site is at the intersection with Nash Street, across from Lawrenceville City Hall. The nearest Starbucks is about two miles away.
Gaskins + Lecraw is working on the new location, according to the permit application. The Marietta-based firm specializes in civil engineering, surveying, site planning and design.
Starbucks first opened in 1971 in Seattle, Washington. The chain has more than 35,000 stores worldwide.
There is also a location in the works in downtown Sugar Hill.

This stretch of Boulevard is a bit on the rougher side as compared to other sections that have seen changes over the past few years so interesting that these two national brands are coming in. I’m actually excited to see this building and the Texaco go away.
What Now editors – hopeful you can make some improvements to the commenting. Would like to stay logged in versus entering name and email each time. Also want a comment tracker so it is easier to see when new comments have been posted. Again, taking up a similar platform that Curbed had would be appreciated.
ATL Native, we are in the process of overhauling our commenting section as we type. Feel free to send me any specific asks/feedback directly through email here. Stay tuned. Thank you! ~ CJS
If you could make the comment section block anything I disagree with and highlight anything that fits my preferred narratives, that’d be great, thanks.
LOL.
I simply installed a chrome plugin which replaces the word “Atlanta” with “Smyrna” and it’s been smooth sailing ever since.
You are cursed to get this question ever day from now until something new is implemented. Haha
Something will likely be in place by Monday 🙂 ~ CJS
YAY!!!
I lived within a block of this place when I first came to Atlanta. It has definitely been a “hold-out” from the gentrification all around it. Mainly because it is a designated drug dealing location (don’t ask me who designates these things, but if you go there at any time of night or day there are people on the corners) with all the resulting violence and police activity.
If this block is “cleaned-up” it will feel like the end of a saga of gentrification which started over a decade ago.
Damn son, out of all of Atlanta this is where you chose to live?
Didn’t have any options. I was broke and it was a recession. Living there helped me save enough to buy a house and escape the forever-a-renter trap. The leasing agent even called me and told me not to live there, but I honestly quite liked it and never regretted the decision. A shooting on the sidewalk outside my place the month before I left pretty much convinced me it was time to move on though…
No joke! I thought I was tough and able to put up with sketchy areas, but there is no way I would ever have lived within a few block of this place even four years ago.
If someone had told me ten (probably even five) years ago that condos from the 290s would be going up on Boulevard near North Avenue, I would have told them they were nuts. Are the landlords on Boulevard going up on their rent, or are they selling their land and cashing out? Or is it a combination.
