The “gay sports bar,” at 2425 Piedmont Road NE, is relocating to 494 Plasters Avenue NE in the Armour Junction campus.
Developer George Rohrig of Cartel Properties acquired the building that currently houses Woofs earlier this month, Owner Gregory Hughes in a telephone interview Thursday told What Now Atlanta.
“There were rumors that the building was going to get torn down,” Hughes said.
“I wanted to leave on my own terms.”
Woofs’ existing location will close down sometime in June while fixtures and furniture are moved to the new, larger Armour outpost.
It could take up to three weeks for the move.
July 1 is the targeted reopening date in the new 494 Plasters address.
“The move is an opportunity to upgrade our facilities including a newly remodeled space and kitchen,” Hughes said.
“We’ve been a gay sports bar since 2002 and that’s what we are now. We serve great food. We have a very loyal clientele and hopefully, they will all move over with us.”
Woofs’ new 4,623-square-foot space is currently under construction.
A new bar, noticeable as soon as guests enter the space, will be “our showstopper.”
Hughes would not share renderings because he wanted the design to be a surprise.
He did say that Woofs would be adding more draft beer options.
“Everything else is staying the same including our menu and our weekly events.”

Come on What Now Atlanta. It was never located in East Atlanta, but East Lake.
