Owner Steven Renner later this year will open the new location in Buckhead, at 45 Irby Avenue, the restaurateur Wednesday told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in a telephone interview.

Matthew Porcelli, the operations manager for the original Woody’s CheeseSteaks in Midtown, will be Renner’s partner on the forthcoming outpost.

Pending the permitting process with the City of Atlanta, Renner expects a July debut.

The Woody’s CheeseSteaks team took possession of the space—formerly home to Sabot Shoes—Tuesday and submitted architectural drawings to the health department Wednesday.

At the Buckhead location, a larger kitchen will allow for additional items on the menu like french fries and onion rings.

Catering and delivery will also be possible out of the new space because of the size—the original Woody’s has a mere 180-square-foot kitchen.

The new 1,400-square-foot space will feel similar to the original but a “touch more modern.”

Expect murals throughout and a porch is in the works.

The original Woody’s CheeseSteaks was founded In 1975 by David Pastoria. Renner took over the eatery in May 2010.

  1. What a nasty smart location! I wish there was a Woody’s open late back when I went to all those trash bars every night.

  2. As a 56 y/o native Atlantan, I’ve been going to Woody’s since 1978. All through David’s ownership, and sometimes brusk attitude, he nonetheless delivered cheesesteaks that were sloppy, LOADED with meat and cheese, and scrumptious! He always gave you your money’s worth. I continue to stop in occasionally, and was just there last week for a delicious cheesesteak. And it was delicious! Unfortunately however, the sandwich comes with considerably less meat than it used to. Extra meat and cheese are available; but this comes at a higher price, on a ‘bready’ sandwich that is already pricey—IMO. That said, I know I’ll always be a Woody’s customer, and I’m thrilled to hear the addition of fries and o. rings at the new location. I’ve been wanting that on the menu for a gajillion years! Just wish I could get a bit more meat and cheese on the regular sandwich to balance the bread. Congratulations on the expansion of this unique, delicious, long standing Atlanta eatery!
