Summerhill's community-rooted BBQ staple is taking its wood-fired meats to Inman Park.

Wood’s Chapel BBQ opened in 2019 with the goal of bringing a little commercial life back to Georgia Avenue and the historic Summerhill community. And now, it looks like the BBQ joint is taking its wood-fired meats to Krog Street Market.

The restaurant has filed for permits to open within an existing food stall at 99 Krog Street, where Krog Street Market serves as a home to seventeen other food stalls, including Soul Food & Culture and Bar Mercado.

Wood’s Chapel, which is named for one of the first community churches built in Summerhill after the Civil War, takes its BBQ very seriously (as all barbecue should be taken, if you ask us). The restaurant relies on wood-fired pits for smoking its meats, of which there are many (prime brisket, salmon, turkey, and whole hog, to name a few).

Wood’s Chapel’s mission hinges on the belief that “Barbecue is community,” among many other things, and if there’s any community in need of a little BBQ love, it’s Krog Street Market. As of right now, there are no other traditional barbecue joints in the food hall.

A representative for Wood’s Chapel was not immediately available for comment, and we don’t know when, exactly, the stall will be up and running, but from the looks of it, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of work to do, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a BBQ outpost this summer.

  1. Seems worth mentioning that the owners of Wood’s Chapel BBQ are also the same ownership team behind Fred’s Meat and Bread and Yalla.

    This is a smart move to take over this space that was already used as a BBQ stall previously. And it puts there three food stalls in a row inside KSM.
