March 31 will be the last day for the grocery store, at 2111 Briarcliff Rd NE, according to a manager at the Whole Foods Briarcliff.

Whole Foods Briarcliff will relocate its team members to other locations.

Atlanta, in turn, will gain a new flagship location.

On April 5 the grocery chain will open its 500th store, this time in Midtown, at 22 14th Street NW.

This multi-level store will feature four fast-casual eateries (including Farm Burger) and a rooftop bar.

“Whole Foods Market is excited to be growing in the Atlanta with our brand new 70,000 square foot multi-level flagship Whole Foods Market Midtown opening on April 5,” a company spokesperson in an email told What Now Atlanta.

“This opportunity allows us to keep what is best about our Briarcliff location–our team members–and to offer them and our customers a new, much larger and more culinary-focused experience nearby.”

Kicking off at 6:30 a.m., opening day celebrations will include free coffee from a local supplier, pastries and live music.

The first 500 customers in line when the doors open at 7 a.m. will also receive a token valid for one Whole Foods Market Midtown tote bag with any purchase.

Over the course of the weekend, several other perks will be offered, including a Whole Foods gift card ranging from $5 to $100 for the first 150 customers in line Friday through Sunday, as well as the chance to cycle for a nonprofit on spin bikes located on the sidewalk in front of the store.

  1. Does Whole Foods really think that anyone who shopped this location will drive the 5-6 miles (20-60 mins depending) to shop at the new Midtown location?
What a joke. A very bad and sad decision by Amazon to close this store.

  2. This is my favorite grocery store by far but if they think that I’m going to drive another 20 minutes to get to this “replacement” location they’ve got another thing coming. Guess I’ll have to start going to Sprouts.

  3. Not driving out of my way to Midtown to go to Whole Foods. Not driving to Decatur either. Sorry Whole Foods, looks like you just lost a customer. Asian markets on Buford Highway work better for me.

  4. Absolutely ridiculous. Anyone every *have* to go to 14th and W. Peachtree? Bring some knitting.
    What a stupid idea.

  5. Totally don’t get this, they’re totally different markets. If they were worried about locations competing, why wouldn’t they be closing the Ponce/Midtown store? That’s the only one where I could even possibly see any overlap.

  6. Goodbye Whole Foods, thanks for ditching your loyal customers in North Druid Hills. I refuse to give the new Midtown store my business. If a craving should strike, I will only go to one of your existing stores (am looking for alternatives, though).
