Union Miller Stockyards on the Westside should break ground in the fourth quarter.
Westbridge Partners and the Martin family of Midtown West Associates and Brickworks, have entered into a partnership to transform the last buildings of the historic Miller Union Stockyards district into an office and retail development, according to a press release Friday.
“The Stockyards project represents the redevelopment of the last of the historic buildings that made up the Miller Union Stockyards Auction House,” Chris Faussemagne, Principal at Westbridge Partners, said in the announcement.
“It is a unique opportunity to finish a complete transformation of this area which includes the Brickworks and Midtown West, Star Provisions, White Provisions, The Goat Farm and King Plow Arts Center.”
The Martin family has owned the three-acre property located at the corner of 10th Street and Brady Avenue in West Midtown, Atlanta for more than 50 years as part of their larger 15-acre holdings in the neighborhood. The Brady tract is one of the last remaining pieces of Atlanta’s historic industrial core. Located on the rail lines, the area served as the central clearinghouse for livestock through the 1800s and into the 1900s. The property includes two historic meat-packing buildings constructed in the early 1900s.
Westbridge Partners specializes in historic preservation, renovation and re-use. The commercial real estate development firm acquired the White Provision building in 2005 and served as the development partner for the project alongside Jamestown Properties, the developer of Ponce City Market in Old Fourth Ward.
When complete, Stockyards Atlanta will include class A office space aimed at technology companies, entrepreneurs and startup companies coming out of nearby Georgia Institute of Technology.
The project will include street-level retail and restaurant space.
The Martin family including brothers Bill and Richard used the buildings for the family furniture business for more than five decades. Richard and his wife Sue redeveloped The Brickworks, a 140,000 square foot mixed-use facility located at 1000 Marietta Street and numerous smaller properties in the Midtown West District. Longtime neighborhood property owners, the brothers also owned the White Provision building from 1972 to 1991.
Atlanta-based architecture firm ai3 is the architect and designer on the project and Cushman and Wakefield will lease the office space.
Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year with a targeted opening of summer 2016.

To whom it may concern, it would be so great if some of this development mojo could be channeled into some non-profit, “giving back” work, just across the tracks in English Avenue! I live and work there, we could realllllllllllllly use a little help.
