White Bull Owner Bringing Italian Eatery Grana to Piedmont Heights

Chef Pasquale 'Pat' Pascarella will open the two-story restaurant in the Morningside Atlanta by Windsor community mid-2019.

Chef Pasquale “Pat” Pascarella is planning an Italian eatery called Grana for the Piedmont Heights neighborhood of Atlanta, according to a press release Thursday.

Grana will specialize in wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas, housemade pasta, “authentic Italian specialties” and more.

The casual Italian eatery is slated to open in mid-2019, at 1835 Piedmont Ave NE, in the Morningside Atlanta by Windsor community across the street from Grindhouse.

What Now Atlanta in mid-2018 uncovered plans for Grana. At the time, the restaurant was going by the name “Prima Serata Pizza.”

“I’m excited to bring Atlanta authentic Italian dishes that are reminiscent of my childhood,” Pascarella said in the release.

“Rather than serving inventive takes on traditional specialties, our emphasis is going to be on providing well-executed dishes that are true to Italian tradition. We want to give our guests consistent, approachable food in a casual, laid-back atmosphere.”

Grana’s menu will feature housemade pasta, a meatball program, seasonal vegetable sides and a selection of signature Italian entrees, including family recipes from Chef Pat’s Italian-American upbringing and a family-style polenta dish served directly on the table.

“The kitchen will take a from-scratch approach, providing diners with Italian staples made with fresh, high-quality and wholesome ingredients sourced locally and from Italy,” according to the release.

Rounding out the food menu will be a beverage list including classic cocktails and wine from regions across Italy, and beer from around the world.

Its dining room will be complete with communal seating and a bar.

Guests will be able to experience the dough and pizza-making processes first hand, with two wood-fired Marra Forni brick pizza ovens serving as focal points in the dining room.

A mezzanine dining level will give guests a view into the restaurant action down below, while just up the stairs, guests will find a rooftop hangout overlooking bustling Piedmont Avenue.

Featuring a bar, soft seating and fire pits in cooler months, Grana’s rooftop will invite guests to gather al fresco for drinks.

Chef Pat Pascarella will lead the kitchen.

Last year Pascarella opened The White Bull on Decatur’s historic square.

  1. what’s going in across the street in the old anchor bar? looks like it’s been completely gutted and in process of being rebuilt entirely.
