Chamblee’s The Commodore Tonsorial Parlor is expanding to West Midtown.

The traditional barbershop is in permitting with the City of Atlanta to buildout suite 111 in Westside Provisions District, at 1170 Howell Mill Road, for its new location.

It will open in space formerly occupied by Calypso.

Owner Rob Hopper, who cuts hair three times a week at the original Chamblee outpost, is looking to open in West Midtown early-December.

“Jamestown Properties does things really well and they’re very selective with their tenants,” Hopper told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview.

“We’re excited to be side-by-side with some great concepts down there.”

The 1,300-square-foot barbershop will house eight chairs and will look and feel “slightly different” from the original Chamblee location.

“We want The Commodore Westisde to have lots of personality and soul,” Hopper said.

There will be a photography area with an infinity wall that will allow Hopper and his team to create their own marketing on-site.

A small basketball goal will be installed “just for fun.”

Grooming products, leather goods, wallets, bags, shirts, hats, and art will be on display for purchase.

Complimentary beer and expresso are available during every appointment.

In its new location, The Commodore will offer a shave club.

Members of the shave club will have their own razor, shaving cream, etc., stored in a private antique mailbox at the store.

In the future, Hopper hopes to train and educate Atlanta’s barber workforce by opening a barber academy.

“Current schools don’t do a good job of preparing barbers,” Hopper said.

“So we want to do something that is more thorough and technical.”

In the meantime, Hopper will offer educational events and training out of The Commodore.
