Krog Street Market will say farewell to Watchman’s Seafood and Spirits after dinner service on February 27, 2022, Eater Atlanta is reporting. The restaurant has not publicly announced the news as of this publication.
Established in 2018 as one of a handful of full-service eateries flanking Krog Street Market’s food hall, Watchman’s is from the team behind Decatur’s Kimball House which includes Jesse Smith, Matt Christison, Bryan Rackley, and Miles Macquarrie.
Rackley told Eater Atlanta the team struggled with the decision to close but that ultimately the Watchman’s concept is “not the best fit for the market” and that “the reality of this pandemic world is that even our best efforts could not sustain the costs associated with staffing and operating this restaurant.”
Kimball House and the group’s oyster farm Shiny Dimes will be business as usual, according to Eater’s thoughtful report which can be read here in its entirety.
Charlotte-based Asana Partners acquired Krog Street Market, the adjacent Stove Works development, and neighboring SPX Alley. Under the new owner’s direction, the properties are now collectively known as The Krog District. In addition to the existing buildings, Asana is adding new offices from the ground-up and direct access to the Atlanta BeltLine.
Set to anchor The Krog District is BrewDog, a rapidly-expanding Scotland-based brewpub. BrewDog Atlanta is set to open in Spring 2022 in the Stove Works Building.
