Owner Makes Closure Announcement On Facebook To 216 “Like”rs

The Village Jerk Cafe, a restaurant that served Caribbean and Latino cuisine, has been closed for two weeks at 271 Glenwood Avenue.

Similar to Vino Libro in Glenwood Park, the closure went without notice (well, if you exclude their Facebook fans likers).

With an opening this past March, The Village Jerk Café shared space with My Sisters Room, an alternative club, and would transformation from restaurant to nightclub Wednesday through Sunday.

With out the rent collection from The Village Jerk Café, we’re curious if My Sisters Room will continue to thrive.

Patricia Annison Racines, The Village Jerk Café owner alluded during our initial interview with her that My Sisters Room needed to sublease the space during the day in order to stay in operation.

The Facebook Message posted by owner, Racines, encourges the possibility of a relocation:

The Village Jerk: Thanks to all my facebook friends for all the support. We are closing The Village Jerk and will be relocating in the near future. I will keep you posted so stay tuned……..

What do you think? Is the concept dead or will it work in a space of its own?

  1. While MSR loved the Village Jerk and found it nice to be able to utilize the space more effectively, MSR does not …. nor ever needed to share the space to supplement income. My Sister’s Room collected minimal rent only to compensate for additional electricity, gas, and water. The purpose of a daytime operation is merely to efficiently utilize the space as much as possible. It also is better for the village to have our buildings active as many hours in the day as possible. My Sister’s Room has been in business 14 years and we have no thought of slowing down now.

  2. I am with Patryce on this one. I had never stated that MSR could not operate without subletting the space. I do not know why I have been quoted as saying this. It is and has never been true and I have never ever made that comment. The idea of sharing the space is a great idea and was workable for both businesses. Thank you to the MSR staff for letting us in to do our thing. The relationship between The Village Jerk and the great staff at MSR was a very good experience for The Jerk. Unfortunately, we the restaurant, had some internal issues that had caused me to make the very difficult decision about closing, regrouping and reopening in the future. Our issues have nothing to do with MSR and I thank them for the chance to experience restaurant ownership without the financial risks that new restaurants experience. MSR has always and remains to hold their own and have been and continue to be a sucessful and popular night spot. Bartenders Kandi and Nick have always been very helpful and supportive concerning my restaurant and for that I want give special thanks. Owners Patryce and Susan have been very understanding concerning our reasons for pulling out. Please understand I have been misquoted and I would never relay information that had never been true. I feel we had great food and service and will relocate as soon as an appropriate location is found. As for MSR, they will continue to thrive as they always have with or without sharing the space. Thank you again to MSR and their very cool staff for whom I will miss terribly. Please stay tuned as we regroup and relocate. Patti Annison-Racines

  3. My lovely lady and I are two of the people that actually ate at the Village Jerk. We went the first month they were open and you would have thought it was the first day anyone had worked at a restaraunt. Short list of problems…. out of their most popular dish (we were there early and there were only two other people there), beer was warm, never got water after asking repeatedly, wrong entree served, never brought appetizer but were charged for it, either a rock or bone in the soup, food served without having silverware. We left knowing they didn’t have a guy’s chance in My Sister’s Room.
