On January 17, An’s Kitchen, located in Norcross, failed the follow-up inspections. The health department was inspecting the establishment after it had failed the previous inspection conducted on January 9. This time, the restaurant’s score fell eight points from the last inspection, when it scored 48 points.
Among the major issues cited by the inspector in the report, they noted that employees were observed to have touched ready-to-eat chicken with their bare hands. An employee was also seen to be handling food without hair restraint. Both issues were solved immediately under the inspector’s instructions.
An employee was seen by the inspectors cracking raw eggs with gloves and then handling single-service items without changing the gloves. This was noted as a repeating issue, as a similar violation in the same category was observed in the previous inspection.
Another repeated issue was with how the food items were cooled. The inspectors saw a large container of chicken giblets that was not cooled adequately, and another large container of chicken giblets was seen to cool at room temperature. Both containers of chicken giblets were discarded.
The report stated that the person in charge did not demonstrate active managerial control over the establishment. The person’s lack of control led to several risk factor violations. The restaurant also failed to obtain a Certified Food Safety Manager (CFSM) within the allowed deadline. The PIC did post the valid CFSM certificate as corrective action.
In addition to the issues mentioned above, the inspectors cited more problems concerning foodborne risk factors and public health interventions at the restaurant. The problems included violations of important practices or procedures and inadequate control measures to avoid illness and injury. The full inspection report has been posted on the official website of the health departments. The previous inspection report for the restaurant is also available.
As the restaurant received a U grade two consecutive times, the license was temporarily suspended on January 17. However, it was reinstated after all the concerned individuals at the restaurant underwent on-site training. The restaurant’s management and staff were educated on following the proper food safety practices and regulations. They were also informed on how to fix the issues that led to the violations and how to take corrective action.
The restaurant will undergo yet another follow-up inspection on or before January 27. If the corrective actions are not taken, the restaurant’s license may be permanently suspended.
Among the 45 restaurants inspected on January 16, 17, and 18, 11 scored a perfect 100. An additional 26 restaurants scored an A grade after scoring between 90 and 99.
