The fast-casual taco joint announced the news on its Facebook page earlier this month to the 600 people who “like” the account.

A press release Monday teased the opening as being in the “coming weeks,” but did not include the official date.

“We are making progress,” Velvet Taco posted to the social media site early-August alongside a photo of the forthcoming restaurant with a photoshopped UFO (pictured above).

“8/26.”

Velvet Taco will be open Monday 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. to 3 a.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 a.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.

It is situated in a 2,500-square-foot corner space in the Whole Foods Market-anchored Buckhead Market Place shopping center, at 35 W Paces Ferry Road.

“It’s our mission to deliver a fresh take on the ubiquitous taco,” Clay Dover, Velvet Taco’s CEO, said in the release.

“We’re very excited to bring our unique and quirky takes to Atlanta and can’t wait to welcome the community to dine with us soon.”

Atlanta will mark the chain’s first Southeast location, joining Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Chicago.

Several new tenants are planned in spaces adjacent the soon-to-open Velvet Taco.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and The Merchant are both in permitting with City of Atlanta to open next door.
