One of Atlanta’s newest chicken wing concepts, Urban Wings, is readying a new location at 1825 Piedmont Ave NE – in a space formerly occupied by fried chicken juggernaut KFC, no less – with the company’s first franchise partner, Azim Virani, at the helm. The restaurant is due to open in mid-October.

“Azim brings the experience, dedication, and the vision of growth that we are looking for in a franchisee,” Urban Wings’ co-founder Moez “Moe” Hasni tells What Now Atlanta. “We are confident that he will offer the same service and quality that we are known for and look forward to helping him open the restaurant and give him continued support for many more.“

Incidentally, following the launch of the Piedmont Heights location, Virani will be opening and operating a third Urban Wings outpost sometime next year at Decatur’s 2680 East College Avenue.

Over the past 15 years, Virani has put together an impressive portfolio in the restaurant and retail industries, having owned and operated private delis, Krispy Crunchy Chicken, and various 7-11s, as well as a Pet Supply Plus store.

On what it means to be the brand’s first franchisee, Virani explains, “Urban Wings has a proven concept that not only offers the best quality products but also a great ambiance which relates to our growing city. Everything from the quality, customer service, customer loyalty, and a strong support from an experienced franchisor gives me the confidence to grow more successful locations. I want to open at least five more locations in Atlanta and surrounding areas in the next two years.”

Hasni established Urban Wings in 2020 and opened the first location in 2021 with Salman “Sam” Badruddin. The vision was born after the two business partners realized that the “Demand for chicken wings has increased drastically in the last few years and wings have become a staple for all events,” says Hasni. “We felt like Atlanta needed a good quality wing restaurant that can provide a healthier product compared to what’s on the market now,” adding, “Not only healthier but the amount of sauce options that no other place provides.”

Urban Wings boasts an arsenal of some 25 sauces that customers can douse on their bone-in or boneless wings, as well as chicken tenders, panko shrimp, a chicken sandwich, or vegan wings. What’s more, it’s perhaps one of, if not the only chicken wing restaurant that allows diners to create their own special sauce concoction.

Urban Wings’ flagship location can be found at 2065 Defoors Ferry Road, and is open every day from 11am-10pm.
