Free People is opening at Lenox Square Mall this July, according to the clothing boutique’s website.
The retailer will replace the now shuttered PH8 at the Buckhead Mall located at 3393 Peachtree Road.
The space is sandwiched between The Body Shop and Arden B. in the Macy’s Wing.
Founded in Pennsylvania during the 70s, Free People transitioned into what Urban Outfitters is today. Free People became a private label sold at Urban exclusively and was made into a wholesale line sold at Bulldog, Ecote, Cooperative and Anthropologie. In 1984, Free People opened as its own boutique.
Stephanie Thompson, manager at Arden B. next door, told What Now Atlanta on a trip to the mall Friday she would rather a shoe store open there.
“I don’t know what Free People is,” Thompson said. “There needs to be a shoe store in this part of the mall. That would bring us more traffic.”
Abby Gross, sales associate at Lush located across the corridor inside Macy’s, couldn’t disagree more with Thompson.
“I love Free People,” Gross said. “I’ll shop there during my breaks.”
