“Madre + Mason is chef Calavino’s return to a full kitchen and is her Southern/Latin concept,” the duo posted to Facebook earlier this year.

Madre + Mason will replace the now-shuttered Couscous across from One Midtown Kitchen, at 560 Dutch Valley Road NE.

The “southern Latin fusion restaurant” will serve up dishes like, “Cumin Lime Buttermilk Brined Fried Chicken, Turkey Poblano Meatloaf with Jalapeno Tequila Gravy, South American Quinoa Vegan Salads, Vegan Ancho Collard Greens, Poblano + Smoked Corn Cornbread, Local Green Tomato Gazpacho, Cheddar Chipotle Biscuits at Brunch, Sweet Potato Flan, Watermelon Galletas,” and more.

“Madre + Mason’s heart is not just in its food but also in the community created around its food,” according to an AD seeking talent for the new eatery.

“Walking into Madre will be like coming home to the smells and sounds of your family’s kitchen with its simple, satisfying and familiar dishes and the organized bustle of a busy stove.”

  1. I would never eat there. I have been to Urban Cannibals. Dora has a very nasty attitude. I am surprised they are still in business. Just rude and unhappy for no reason. No thank you.

  2. I have known Doria for years and have only ever known her to be positive and uplifting. Maybe you just caught her on a bad day? I haven’t had the chance to eat at Urban Cannibals yet, but we are relocating to the South from Philly this summer and I am excited to have the opportunity to try it. Looking so forward to it…congratulations, chicas!
