A building permit for the Mexican restaurant was filed this week with City of Atlanta, to erect a new structure where Midtown’s Silver Grill currently stands.

Originally, the Mexican restaurant was going to spend $100,000 making commercial alterations to the space, and then open in Silver Grill’s place.

The new 2,000-square-foot La Hacienda Mexican restaurant will cost an estimated $150,000 to construct.

An additional $25,000 will be spent demolishing the 1,339-square-foot Silver Grill building, according to permits filed earlier this year.

La Hacienda’s reason for building its Midtown location from the ground up instead of occupying the Silver Grill space as planned, has not been confirmed.

  1. I’m guessing that the $150K is just for the core structure itself and none of the interior systems (plumbing, HVAC, venting, etc)?

  2. We drove past the building the other day, I think it’s apparent from the exterior appearance why they’re going to build from scratch.

  3. Aah, but what became of the iconic Silver Grill neon sign? I always hoped Clay Harper would rescue it for his collection of historic Atlanta signage and display it at a Fellini’s…

    1. The owner of The Silver Grill that closed 12/22/2006 took the Orginal neon sign with him. He proudly displays it at his home.

  4. Finally there are starting to demolish the old silver grill I hope la hacienda will be open buy the end of summer.

  5. I would be leary of this restraint. The owner in charge of operation of the restraint a Mr. Xavier Cuellar, was arrested over selling counterfit bills to federal agents over a three month period. I know this because I have lived in the apartment building next door for almost 20 years. He was in prison for about a year but is now out. He frequently uses illegal drugs in our parking lot at two in the morning. We have almost come to fighting blows on more than one occasion and he has made threats of physical harm to me and people I care about on several occasions. We are now in the process of moving out of our apartment due to the renewed vigor in construction, and the fact that the outdoor balcony looks directly into our apartment. I would ask all of you not to eat here do to the fact that he was charged with selling over $150,000 in counterfeit bills now he has a restraint to launder his dirty cash with.

  6. I am hoping that this restaurant will have some of the finest foods and water available. Too often I am disappointed with restaurants who do not filter their water leaving fluoride in it. Too often I am disappointed that restaurants continue to use white table salt which our bodies identify as poison. Use Pink Salt with minerals and find out what real food can taste like. Often I find restaurants cutting costs by purchasing GMO anything and try to feed us that garbage type food. I am hoping that this restaurant has the food and water that will be acceptable to eat.

  7. I saw a now hiring sign outside. Where would you go or who do u call for information?

  8. I went to this new restaurant and did not eat or sit after I saw the menu and food coming ut of the kitchen. So much GMO, so much ill offerings. I met the owner /manager across the street at Traders Joe’s when she was in line there. I asked her if the restaurant offered organic foods. She said yes. I went there expecting to smell, see and eat some good foods, but, I saw that they use everything GMO. Sick joke of a restaurant. I will never eat there.
