Owner of Midtown bakery on Facebook said, he’s hoping to expand.

Although Bakeshop is closing its Midtown location, at 903 Peachtree Street, Jonathan St. Hilaire, owner of the Midtown bakery, said in a Facebook post Friday morning, “I can promise that you’ll be able to find Bakeshop breads and pastries in Atlanta.”

The Midtown bakery is being replaced by Lime Fresh Mexican Grill (also opening in Buckhead), which “really (really)” wanted Bakeshop’s space, Hilaire said in the Facebook post.

Coincidentally, Hilaire at the time was struggling with current space constraints to manage its growing wholesale business, he said.

When Lime Fresh “came knockin’, I was trying to figure out how to manage Bakeshop’s rapidly growing wholesale business within my current space constraints,” he said. “I can’t release any details on the two things I’m working on now, but hope to by the end of the year.”

What Now Atlanta asked Hilaire in a telephone interview Wednesday if Bakeshop would relocate. He had no comment.

  1. Good to hear – don’t want to keep an extrordinary talent and product down. Hopefully the new location will still be in the midtown/downtown area.

  2. This was a great concept. There were problems with service (it was impossible to get a cup of coffee in the morning, and they never got your order right for breakfast). Some baked good were excellent (breads) some were mediocre (cupcakes were dry). Price point was a little steep but the ambiance and shared seating made up for that. If the guy is smart he will just slide down to Spire or Viewpoint and open up in a larger space there. You can not beat the cache and foot traffic of a midtown Peachtree location.

  3. I’d love to see Bakeshop move into one of the empty store fronts at Viewpoint and put tables out on the sidewalk. There’s only one small space left at Spire, but if they fill the shop with goods from their commercial site they won’t need as big as space.

In the end the closing is a big loss for that part of Midtown as there isn’t anything similar to what they offered nearby.
