The Maryland-based creamery and café has secured space in Vantage Realty Partner’s forthcoming 131 Walker Street development in Castleberry Hill, TropQ Founder Ty Debellotte told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in a telephone interview Monday.

“When we saw the plans we thought, ‘wow, we need to be there,’ and from a business standpoint, the rent is ideal for our model.”

TropQ, short for “Ty’s Recipes Zero Preservatives Quality Ice Cream,” offers made-to-order creations. This is particularly helpful for kids with food allergies and guests wanting a vegan option, according to Debellotte.

Debellotte left his job with the Department of Justice after 20 years to launch and grow the TropQ brand.

“I’m a serial entrepreneur. I’m very competitive. I’m like the Kobe Bryant of the ice cream game. We’re the real deal when it comes to smoothies and ice cream.”

The Atlanta outpost, slated to open in the first quarter of 2017, will be TropQ’s seventh location. The creamery and café has one existing location in Maryland with five TropQs under development in the Washington D.C. area.

Debellotte plans to open “77 locations in the next three to four years” and is looking for a manager or owner to run the Atlanta store.

“We think we can take over the country with ice cream and smoothies.”
