Will this Asian-Latin taqueria take Buckhead by storm or will their name leave ’em dead in the water?

Tsunami Taqueria will replace the now shuttered Toulouse restaurant in Buckhead, according to a permit filed with the city of Atlanta Monday.

On a trip to the location Tuesday, What Now Atlanta discovered construction is well underway. Architectural plans and a foam board with color pallets and logo for the taqueria, were displayed on a table inside.

We asked Marietta resident Pearl Cid, who was walking past the location on her way to Imperial Fez Tuesday, what she thought about the taqueria’s name.

“The name will stick but it might be offensive,” Cid said. “Especially with everything that is going on in the world right now.”

Buckhead resident Jack, who had just finished dining at Tantra nearby, told What Now Atlanta Tuesday he’s never been to Toulouse and doesn’t think he’ll dine at Tsunami either.

“With a name like that, it doesn’t sound like it will be any good,” Jack said.

  1. A stupid name for a restaurant that seems hardly original. Maybe they can open Alabama Twister, a burger joint, next door.

  2. You gotta stop with the opinion of the man on the street stuff. It adds nothing to hear from Cid or Jack. If you have an opinion, tell it to us. It’s a blog; you’re allowed. We don’t need to hear from some stray walking on Peachtree. Who walks in Atlanta anyway?

  3. What genius came up with this idea? Another plebeian fusion-taqueria. Just what Atlanta wants and needs. Inbreeding is prominent here, same retarded idea after another. Like the name suggests, it will be washed away before anyone even notices.

  4. I completely agree, Jim… plus the comments of the random people are typically either completely useless or as moronic as the fake “people on the street” in The Onion.

  5. hi jim and cb– thanks for your feedback. the way in which we write stories have and will continue to evolve. we’ll take your recommendations into consideration with appreciation.

    thanks for reading and commenting!

  6. Sounds like its going to be a great place. Oh boy lets not go to the Hurricane grill or Typoon on peachtree. Some people need to get a grip

  7. We are excited to open our new concept in Atlanta. The name, Taqueria Tsunami with the tagline – a Tidal Wave of Flavors, came about well before the unfortunate incident in Japan. As a result of this tragedy we are donating money from the sales of feature tacos on our menu toward tsunami relief efforts.

We look forward to bringing our menu that combines the unique flavors of the East and the West to Atlanta this July.

  8. In yo face – Brunhilda (bet you make a mean stew) and Johnny (talk about “original”) – you can’t knock it if you don’t try it and sucks to have your pessimism because the menu sounds delicious! Not to mention, where else can you eat out and support a good cause? FYI – putting your extra change in the drive thru box at McDonald’s doesn’t count! I’m excited for the place to open!

  9. CJS – What was the name of the restaurant in this location Before Toulouse and there was a Blues Club there before that. I can’t remember their names. thanks –
