Another restaurant falls victim to recession

Toulouse Restaurant in Buckhead is closing.

Owner of the American bistro style restaurant at 2293 Peachtree Road, George Tice, confirmed the restaurant’s last day will be Dec. 31. The restaurant opened in 1994.

Tice sent an email out on Dec. 9 to patrons of the restaurant thanking them for 16 great years and admits he had kept the restaurant alive four years too many.

“For the last four years, each year I told myself that the economy was going to turn, and with that thought, I kept Toulouse open for another year. This year, regrettably, I’ve reversed my opinion on the economy improving, and will close Toulouse on 12.31.10.”

Tice plans on remaining active at his other restaurant, Portofino, which celebrated their 10 aniversary on Dec. 1. Portofino offers an American and Italian fused menu.

Long established restaurants closing always come as a surprise. What are your memories of this 16 year old, Buckhead favorite?

  1. I’ve always loved Toulouse’s classy but casual atmosphere, as well as their food and service. I’m disappointed that they’re closing!

  2. This was not a good restaurant to begin with and George Tice isn’t a very good host or very good company for that matter.

  3. To Lose…..george tice gets what he gets. This place was the biggest joke in the ATL. I just hope his stupidity and his ego won’t spill into Portofino. Get a clue georgey..no-one likes you. You have no idea what good food is. In fact…you have no idea!!

  4. Toulouse was great. I loved the atmosphere and the menu.
The paintings were terrific. The service was good. The only thing that Toulouse missed was visability from Peachtree street.

Wines by the glass you can taste to see if you like. No corkage fee Sundays. Loved the place and will miss it.

    George was a consumate host.
