Topstitch, a fabric shop and sewing studio, will grand open in Ponce City Market Saturday, August 18.
Previously located in Decatur, Topstitch’s new shop will neighbor The Mercury on the second floor of the Old Fourth Ward redevelopment’s Central Food Hall and offer a selection of apparel fabrics, specialty sewing tools, kits, gifts, and classes.
In honor of the new shop’s debut, Topstitch is hosting a grand opening party at Ponce City Market location from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The all-day celebration will feature a lineup of events including an “Untitled Thoughts” pattern release, meet and greets with indie fabric designer Ellen Baker (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), measurement taking and more.
Complimentary sweet treats from Five Daughters Bakery and Cult Carts will be served as well as free drop-in sewing for drink koozies throughout the day.
Topstitch’s new 1,600-square-foot shop will feature a black and white color palette with pops of yellow alongside a handpainted mural with the words “inspire – gather – sew” from local illustrator, Sarah Neuburger.
A vintage glass-and-mirror shelved shop counter will serve as a focal point of the shop and white metal racks will house a collection of items, such as patterned fabrics and accessories made exclusively for Topstitch.
Atlanta native Leigh Metcalf is behind Topstitch.
She sources fabrics from around the world, including from France, Japan, England and indie American fabric companies.
Upon opening, Leigh will offer classes at the shop’s in-house classroom, which will accommodate up to eight attendees. Courses range from dressmaking to jeans-making and block printing and can be pre-booked online.
The studio will also host private sewing parties, as well as “Friends Night Out” sewing classes every Friday night.
