Tom Murphy has sold his Morningside Kitchen restaurantSteve Josovitz of The Shumacher Group. Inc., confirmed in an email to What Now Atlanta (WNA) Tuesday.

Josovitz represented Murphy and his team in the transaction.

A group led by Blaiss Nowak, son of Hal Nowak (owner of Hal’s Steakhouse), bought the restaurant, according to Josovitz.

Nowak and his team will convert Morningside Kitchen into an undisclosed concept.

The 4,000-square-foot space, with seating for 100 inside and 50 outside, first opened in March 2016 and reached annual sales “approaching $2,000,000.”

Rent on the space “all in” is $13,000 with a ten-year lease and options to renew.

Nowak did not immediately return WNA’s request for comment.

  1. I’m actually really surprised by this– Morningside Kitchen seems to have a steady stream of regulars and consistent (though not spectacular) delicious meals. I wonder what the new concept will be…perhaps they can bring back Rosebud 🙂

  2. We have been 3 times since moving back into Morningside 3 months ago and the food the first two times was decent but uninspiring for sure. The last time we went the food was downright horrible. All three times we were there (and twice was on the weekend) the restaurant was half full, not something you saw when the restaurant was Rosebud.

  3. I have to say that I respectfully disagree with a couple of the January reviews.
I’m thrilled that an established family such as the Nowak’s would come into the Midtown area.
I’m happy to see a family tradition of offering consistently some of Atlanta’s best food at Hal’s being carried on at Nowak’s.
Plus, they keep a higher-end ambiance in mind and couple it with a warm and welcoming atmosphere for families too.
I’ve eaten there several times. I was there a couple occasions with my family; my kids love the food and deserts!
Three times I’ve eaten there with friends and another I chose the location for a meeting. I have another meeting there this week as well.
The food is consistently delicious. In fact, twice we sampled several items on the app, entrée and dessert menus family style in order to discover our favorites.
Welcome to the neighborhood Nowak’s, glad to have you!
PS Tom Murphy isn’t the type of man that would sell a restaurant to someone he didn’t believe would be able to provide a great local for the locals. He cares about Midtown and I’m sure gave the sell a great deal of consideration before the agreed transaction.
