Tierras Alto, the “American Cantina” that replaced Cafe Highlands (and Cafe 640 before that), is no longer in business, according to a sign posted to the restaurant’s front door.

“Tierras is now closed. Thank you for your business.”

A Tierras Alto employee confirmed the closure with What Now Atlanta on a trip to the space, at 640 North Highland Avenue NE, Tuesday morning.

Tierras Alto wasn’t open very long. The restaurant made its debut August, 2016.

Sweet Auburn, a neighboring barbecue joint, is reportedly in talks to take over the space, according to sources who work intimately with the landlord.

Sweet Auburn was not immediately available for comment.

  1. I can’t say I’m surprised. We visited Cafe Highlands before it closed and the “manager” of Tierras Alto (who was repulsive, by the way) came to our table to give out free drink cards and trash talk Cafe Highlands, which happened to be one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Good riddance.
