The Wing Guru will be opening a new location in the spring of 2022 at 205 Town Blvd. Occupying suite 250A, Georgia will be the second state outside of Tennessee for the Memphis-based brand. The location was formerly home to Tanaka Ramen Bar, a Japanese eatery serving up hot sake and ramen bowls that closed shortly after opening in 2020.

Created by Billy Richmond Jr., a former basketball player who played at both Vanderbilt University and the University of Memphis, as well as professionally overseas, the first Wing Guru restaurant opened in 2016. It saw early success by being ranked the #6 hot wing restaurant by The Wing Experts and in 2017, the brand became the official chicken wing partner of Richmond’s alma mater, The University of Memphis.

Currently, The Wing Guru has a total of four locations in Tennessee and one in Southaven, Mississippi. A second Southaven location is reportedly in the works for Silo Square, as well as another Tennessee location in Whitehaven.

Besides its physical locations, The Wing Guru also operates an online store which allows fans to purchase the brand’s packaged pork skins and bottled seasonings and sauce. According to its website, it is offering partnership opportunities to those interested in owning a Wing Guru restaurant.

A representative for The Wing Guru said the restaurant is being brought to the city of Atlanta by a franchisee but declined to disclose his name. “It will be his first with the brand,” she said. “He owns a line of convenience stores in Memphis and is moving from there. His wife is from the area [Atlanta].”

The fast-casual restaurant serves 21 flavors of chicken wings including Honey Suicide, Garlic Sriracha, Lemon Pepper Hot, and the Triple J. – a flavor that was developed in partnership with Memphis Grizzlies power forward and center Jaren Jackson Jr. Fried fish, gourmet burgers, and sides such as okra and fries are also on the menu.

Per a report published earlier this year in The Memphis Business Journal, the forthcoming Atlanta location will also feature a bar. “It will be the best bar experience you can ever imagine,” Richmond said at the time.

The brand’s representative confirmed that the location will include a bar, as well as TVs. Menu-wise, everything “will be the same,” she said. “But we will have a line of specialty premium crafted drinks featuring some of Billy’s favorites.”

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner. Online ordering will be offered through DoorDash and Uber Eats.
