The Victorian Atlanta to Open Two New Locations This Year

Formerly operating within Ponce City Market's Citizen Supply, the plant shop is opening its own storefront in the Old Fourth Ward mixed-use and a separate outpost in the East Atlanta Village.

The Victorian Atlanta, a husband and wife-owned plant shop, will expand into its first standalone store at Ponce City Market on August 1, according to a press release Wednesday. Owners Libby Hockenberry and Cary Smith are also opening a location later this year in the East Atlanta Village, at 1336 Glenwood Ave. SE, in partnership with Bellwood Coffee, a locally-owned coffee shop.

Previously housed within Citizen Supply—the small business marketplace founded by Phil Sanders—The Victorian Atlanta sells a selection of houseplants, rare, tropical plants, and exotic cacti, along with all the supplies and tools to take care of them. This expansion will allow them to widen their selection.

The plant shop will also provide both “green thumb consultations,” to help shoppers keep their existing plants thriving, and “greenterior consultations,” to help shoppers find the right plants to add to their space. In-store events and workshops will also be available.

The Ponce space, located between J.Crew and West Elm on the exterior ground floor of the mixed-use community hub, was designed by ShoppeNative co-founder Alison Fandel. The 1,438 square-foot space aims to present a clean, airy interior with a tiny hothouse to hold their rare plants.

The details of the East Atlanta Village (EAV) location, set to open in Glenwood in November or December, have yet to be finalized, but the owners say they’re very excited. “We are already feeling excitement from the community in EAV who knows we are opening and we can’t wait to be a part of the neighborhood,” Hockenberry said.

It will incorporate a coffee bar by Bellwood Coffee which is currently expanding its first storefront.

“We’re excited for this new chapter for our shop,” Hockenberry said. “We think the new store is going to be beautiful and can’t wait for our customers and friends to experience everything we have in store for the space. The last two and half years have been such an incredible journey, and all of this wouldn’t have been possible without Phil and the Citizen Supply team. We can’t wait to continue growing our community, friendships and some cool plants.”
