Food Porn Compliments of Urban PL8 Restaurant

It’s Sunday evening. So we wanted to give everyone something to look forward to before they start their workweek tomorrow. Those of you who employ yourselves, we know how you’ll be starting your workweek after reading this.

Betsy Pitts, chef and owner of Urban pL8 restaurant at 1082 Huff Road in west midtown, has created a dangerously succulent dessert. Don’t let the name deceive you.

The Elledge (six dollars):

Pitts starts with a glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut (she had us at glazed). She cuts the doughnut in half and char grills each piece over open flames. Next, she places heaping scoops of vanilla ice cream in between each piece and tops the Elledge with mint.

It’s as good as it looks:

  1. Wow–so a $.90 doughnut and $1 worth of ice cream for only $6?

Guess it’s the mint leaf…yeah, that must be $3. Oh, plus $1 to toast the doughnut. What a racket.

  2. Don’t knock it until you try it…it’s AMAZING! Yeah, it’s $6 bucks …most of us spend that much at the local coffee house and don’t think a thing of it. Urban PL8 is awesome and Atlanta needs to continue to support great independent restaurants like this!

  3. I guess they’re supposed to sell it at cost. Yeah, that’s what a business does. Who needs profit? Who needs to pay rent? Who needs to pay electricity? Who needs to pay the employees? If it’s a $.90 doughnut and $1 worth of ice cream, let’s charge $2.00 $.10 profit is surely enough to survive.

  4. THAT looks like $1.00’s worth of ice cream to you? Either you’re used to buying some crappy ice cream or things are just hella’ cheap where you live.
