Chef Scott Smith, the brains and talent behind The Curious Pig and Curious Kitchen and Bar, is due to open his latest concept, Curious Cantina, sometime this year in the space formerly occupied by Shane’s Rib Shack outside Peachtree City’s Kedron Village, located at 1261 N Peachtree Pkwy.
“It’s going to be like what we do at our other restaurants – I don’t want to say ‘non-traditional traditional’ – but we’re going to do not-rice-and-beans Mexican food. Like, real, authentic Mexican food,” Smith tells What Now Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the beverage program is going to feature “high-end cocktails,” with Smith having recently returned from Tequila, Mexico in the state of Jalisco, where he sampled and sourced a barrel for the restaurant.
What’s more, the agave-based spirit is front-and-center of the new concept. When asked if he’d like to provide a statement for this article, Smith simply stated, “Stop trying to make everyone happy; You’re not tequila.”
A native of Peachtree City, Smith opened The Curious Pig in 2018, followed by Curious Kitchen and Bar two years later. Writing on the latter’s website, the Curious team explains, “They say it is unlikely that lightning will strike the same place twice, but not impossible. In 2018, Scott Smith opened up The Curious Pig in Peachtree City and lightning struck. Built on the principles of house-made food and handcrafted cocktails, the family owned business was able to thrive. By utilizing the same equation of a chef driven menu and innovative cocktails, the Curious Crew was able to make lightning strike twice – this time venturing to Senoia to open The Curious Kitchen & Bar in 2020.”
Now, lighting is set to strike once more.
“It’s not fun to do the same thing over and over, so we want to just keep things curious, and expand the brand,” says Smith.
