The event and performance venue will open in space formerly occupied by Domus Contemporary Furniture, at 1919 Piedmont Road NE.

The Carlyle is under construction and is expected to open in October, Walt Torbert, a representative with the company, in a telephone interview told What Now Atlanta Monday.

Soft openings for professionals in the event industry will be held throughout September.

“Our desire is to grow into the event business with The Carlyle, and in doing so, open a space that’s fun, entertaining, and serves the Atlanta community,” Torbert said.

The Carlyle will specialize in weddings, corporate events, private parties, and photo shoots, with capacities ranging from 200 to 700 guests.

“It’s a good space for large parties as The Carlyle will offer high capacity, but will still feel personal and intimate,” Torbert said.

The family-owned company led by Walt’s father Roy W. Torbert wants The Carlyle to feel like a “real place” and not a “shell that opens up once a week.”

To achieve that feeling, The Carlyle will play host to concerts and “other kinds of cultural events like festivals, fundraisers, and exhibits.”

Plexus R + D is designing the space and Bennett Gottlieb of Capital Real Estate Group brokered the deal.
