Artists Thursday completed the installation of a 12-foot tall art exhibit in downtown Alpharetta called “The A.”
The A has a two-tiered seating platform and will remain for “years to come,” according to a press release Friday.
Its “A” stands for “Alpharetta.”
RO Hospitality restaurateur Ryan Pernice (of the recently-opened Coalition Food and Beverage), George Jackson IV of Teasley Place, and Atlanta artist Greg Mike are behind the sculpture.
“George and I get really excited about street art projects that engage the community,” Pernice said in the release.
“We shared a desire to incorporate that excitement in not only Coalition Food and Beverage, but also Teasley Place in general.”
The A, covered in spray paint, sits outside of Coalition, at 50 Canton St.
Pernice and Jackson IV first conceived of the project after learning of a shared love for public art.
The duo took inspiration from the Wynwood District in Miami, a national center for street art for locals and tourists alike.
Soon after, the pair reached out to Greg Mike.
Mike is the founder and creative director of ABV Gallery in Atlanta and his work focuses on the “creative potential of reinventing public spaces through art and design.”
His placemaking pieces can be seen on the Beltline and throughout downtown Atlanta in the forms of wall art and billboards.
Mike completed the piece on December 20.
