The nearly-new Cactus House in Midtown is already changing hands.

James Nelson, the owner of the nearby popular restaurant and bar Ten Atlanta, is taking over the craft taco concept, Emilio Lourdes, managing partner at Cactus House, in a telephone interview told What Now Atlanta (WNA) Thursday.

“Cactus House Midtown will be going through some serious changes as of June 1,” Lourdes said.

Lourdes will remain on the team but Michael Pacca, one of the restaurant’s co-owners, will leave the company as it changes hands.

Pacca will focus on growing his Lips Restaurant concept including “opening in Chicago later this year.”

“Michael had a heart attack back in September of 2017, and could no longer assist in the operations of the business,” Lourdes said.

“Michael thinks James Nelson will be a perfect operator.”

Nelson will take the reins Friday, June 1.

“James has seen the potential this location has and the mistakes made,” Lourdes said.

“His main goal will be to focus on the food quality, customer service and making sure that Cactus House Midtown becomes another great location for our community to hang out at.”

The menu will get a redo and a soft re-opening will be held later in the year “to show the community the changes we have to offer for summer.”

Nelson is the second-known nightclub operator this year to acquire a Midtown restaurant.

Richard Cherskov, founder of the now-shuttered Jungle dance club along with nightlife event promoter Keith Young, in late-March, purchased Midtown Tavern.

  1. Great! This place has a really cool patio, but their tacos are horrible. Hopefully this change will improve the food quality.

  2. Moving away from Tacos might be a good idea. There are already plenty of places to get tacos, of varying quality, in Midtown. (Escorpion, RReal Tacos, Senior Patron, Zocalo, Babalu, Prickly Pear, Willy’s, Moe’s and even a Taco Bell.)

  3. Per their Facebook post tonight, Cactus House is closing. Did Mr Nelson take over and plans to open a different concept here? Any news?
