Things are about to get a whole lot sweeter for Sweets By MJB and its owner, Mariah Jeneice Benoit.
According to a recent building permit application obtained by What Now Atlanta, the dessert business is opening a brick and mortar location at 1334 Boulevard SE. It currently operates out of Triton Yards, a food truck and restaurant park, at 1318 Sylvan Rd SW.
“At the present time, I don’t have an exact opening date but it’s between now and Nov. 20th,” Benoit said in a statement.
Sweets By MJB was founded by Benoit, who says the idea for the name came from the initials of her favorite childhood R&B singer Mary J. Blige, with whom she happens to share the same initials. She has always had a passion for baking and decided to turn her dream into a reality by creating a unique dessert business where fruit becomes frosting.
“I specialize in cupcakes and frosting made using real fruit,” Benoit said in an interview with VoyageATL. “I am most proud of my concept and how I am sticking to being a niche in my market. The concept of fresh fruit becoming frosting will keep me set apart from my competition. I will be providing a fresh-tasting sweet treat that has been going great with my current clients.”
Per her website, the physical location will offer “an insane menu and appeal that the metro Atlanta has never seen.”
The current menu offers a variety of cake flavors such as strawberry, marble, red velvet and key lime. Frosting includes unique concoctions like “Kiss Me Kiwi” made with fresh kiwi pieces in a sweet summer-flavored buttercream and “Macho Mango”, a smooth and creamy pureed mango buttercream frosting.
