“We’re taking a historic building on historic Auburn Street and turning it into a boutique bottle shop,” Owner Omer Gungoren said. “We’ll have international sodas, craft beers, cigars… a little bit of everything.”
He said it won’t be a typical liquor store and hopes to become a staple in the Atlanta community.
Gungoren hopes to open sometime in the summer.
Already an owner of Anatolia Cafe & Hookah Lounge, Gungoren wants to build the brand in Sweet Auburn.
“We own a restaurant a half-mile down the road,” he said. “We’ve been here since 2009 and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. We want to continue to be part of the neighborhood that we’ve been part of for the past decade.”
He said that Sweet Auburn is a growing, developing, and historic community and he sees a lot of potential for the new business.
“Downtown Atlanta has no bottle shop that people can go to and find something they’ve never had,” Gungoren said.
He first bought the building on Auburn Avenue in 2018 but didn’t start working on it until February 2020 and then COVID-19 delayed everything.
“We had to start fresh this year and get everything going again,” Gungoren added.
