Co-Owner Charlie Heath and his team will open the fitness facility in a new office building from The Loudermilk Companies, at 371 East Paces Ferry Road.

It is scheduled to open late-January, early-February 2019, Heath in a telephone interview Wednesday told What Now Atlanta.

Surf’s Up Fitness offers group exercise options like surf-style classes, yoga, and spin.

Yoga on surfboards is nothing new, according to Globo Surf Founder and Editor David Hamburg, and certainly makes sense as an indoor activity.

“At first glance, surfing and yoga may not look like the perfect match, “Hamburg said. “Surfing is all about getting on top of a surfboard and riding the waves. But what does this have to do with yoga? When you are surfing, you exert a lot of pressure on your body trying to keep yourself balanced. The lower back, the chest cavity, the legs, and the arms, in particular, feel the most strain. This causes your body to close off.”

Up to 300 members will be accepted at the new Buckhead facility. Membership is $129 per month and is all-inclusive of the club’s nearly 140 classes per week.

The company’s class sizes are capped at 13 to 15, according to Heath. Heath and his team could open as many as 10 to 15 locations throughout the metro Atlanta area; a combination of both corporate and franchise stores.

Existing outposts are in Ackworth and Marietta.

  1. Actually, there is a well established gym in the Telephone Lofts that has occupied the space for the last 6 years and has been in Atlanta for 10 years. In order for the Union to open, the small gym is being kicked out to make way for Ty McMaths gym conglomerate.

  2. Like one person already commented- Did you do any research before you wrote this?!?! I’ve been going to the gym already there for YEARS!!!!! This is infuriating and needs to be corrected.
