Discover Strength is planned for 6500 Aria Village Drive. The studio offers 30-minute workouts twice a week for maximum efficiency, along with the help of exercise physiologists for maximum expertise.
Katie and Mateus Ferraz-Souza are bringing the first Discover Strength location to the Atlanta market. As entrepreneurs and health care professionals (Mateus is a chiropractor, Katie is a dentist), they are passionate about fitness and the benefits of strength-training.
“People need to understand that working out is a must for longevity, and healthy muscle mass is associated with longevity,” Mateus told What Now Atlanta. “We need to be moving and working out.”
Katie first discovered the concept from her brother, who has been going to Discover Strength for 16 years. (The entrepreneurial spirit runs in the family; he opened a studio in Texas.)
“With my profession as a dentist, I’m hunched over patients,” Katie said. “I often get back pain, neck pain. And you don’t have time in your life to go to the gym and focus on that aspect of your life. Discover Strength offers the opportunity to go to the gym and do these quick 30-minute workouts a couple times a week. All of a sudden, I can do my job and not have a lot of pain.”
The Ferraz-Souzas became familiar with Atlanta by visiting family who live in the area. They had been looking for locations to open Discover Strength, and when they came across the space in Sandy Springs, they knew it was where they wanted to plant their studio.
Discover Strength was founded in 2006. The studios offer both one-on-one personal training and small group training. The concept is designed to be suitable for all ages, but busy people in particular might enjoy the signature efficiency.
“Getting it done in 30 minutes twice a week, that’s the best,” Katie said.
Mateus said they would love to open more locations down the line, giving people access to high-quality and efficient exercise to build muscle mass, increase longevity, and improve quality of life.
“As a society, we’re moving so much into new technology,” Mateus said. “In some ways we’re forgetting to focus on ourselves and our health, and that’s the best investment you can make: investing into your health.”
Discover Strength is expected to open in Sandy Springs in December 2024.
