In May, the city agreed to sell the 25,000-square-foot space, formerly the Sears building, for $2.4 million dollars to Stonecrest Resorts, a development affiliate of Urban Retail Properties that manages the Mall at Stonecrest.
“The attorneys are still working out the details of the closing documents,” Mayor pro tem George Turner said in a press release.
The proposed aquarium will be SeaQuest’s tenth location (not to mention its largest), and will feature an array of global attractions, including an Amazon Rainforest with tropical birds, a Caribbean Cove home to “exotic sea life,” and a reptilian sanctuary in the aquarium’s Egyptian Desert.
Expect sharks, sloths, and kinkajous, as well. And if you don’t know what a kinkajou is, head over to the SeaQuest website to buy your tickets, and go see one for yourself.
