The city market that caters to nearby office workers and Georgia State University students, replaces JR Crickets and an adjacent corner space, at 57 Forsyth Street NW (suites 49 to 53).

Unlike its predecessor, however, Social Market and Cafe will grill and bake its food—nothing fried.

Alongside the made-fresh daily eats like housemade sandwiches, and a salad and hot bar with ingredients sourced from local Georgia farms and nearby farmer’s markets, a beverage station serves coffee, smoothies and soon beer and wine, according to Mahsa S. Kimes, also the owner of Cafe Cubism in SunTrust Plaza.

“We launched on Monday and did pretty good for our first day, we did a lot better than we were expecting,” Kimes said.

“Day two as well. Everything fell into place.”

Social Market and Cafe’s 3,104-square-foot space also includes a lounge area for “sitting, chatting, and working” with wifi and USB ports to facilitate.

“We wanted to create an environment for customers to come in grab food and sit down and chill whether they need to study or work on a laptop, or be social, and have fun with friends. We are trying to create a homey environment within the market concept; it’s all in the name.”

The market cafe opens early daily at 6:30 a.m.
