Squeez is a new storefront heading to Midtown, at 27 12 St. NW, on the bottom floor of the Skyhouse Midtown complex, owner Christina Kaney confirmed with What Now Atlanta (WNA).
The concept is more of a Starbucks-like setup, a place you’d like to hang out for a while. While most smoothie places are more of a drive-thru or “in and out” idea, Squeez is looking to make it more of a social experience. Kaney hopes for an opening of spring 2021, gauging around April. But until the vaccine becomes more widely available, Squeez will focus on a lot of “new ordering and pickup solutions” that Kaney is excited about. What that may be, the owner said we’d have to wait and see.
Simply opening is the most exciting part for Kaney, whose previous plans were put on hold, thanks to the pandemic. “At the beginning of COVID, the plan was to open up but it’s been a really long journey,” they told WNA. “It just took a long time with everything going on, finding a space in Midtown, and signing an agreement that makes sense in these crazy times.” When things begin to return to normal, the plan is to expand around Georgia.
While the ground-level retail at Skyhouse is a little bleaker with the closure of anchor tenant Creative Approach earlier this year, last month plans were revealed for a renovation project of a two-story house sitting next door to the skyrise. The plan is being led by BCY Architects to convert the 0.23 acres into a restaurant, adding an outdoor patio to the structure.
