The doughnut shop, at 295 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, in mid-December submitted a building permit application to the City of Atlanta to build the new 4,035 square-foot Krispy Kreme from the ground up.

Construction is estimated at $1,400,000, according to the filing, which includes a drive-thru and a dining area of 22 seats as well as a new dumpster enclosure and site lighting.

Krispy Kreme on December 7 opened a temporary drive-thru shop at the site — one week before the construction permit was filed. Demolition of the original structure took place earlier in the year.

The temporary drive-thru shop is offering a select menu of original glazed doughnuts and classic assorted doughnuts, along with bottled beverages. The drive-thru shop will be open seven days a week: Sunday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“The Ponce de Leon location is one of our most historic and iconic shops and together with our partner Shaquille O’Neal we’ve been looking forward to bringing back the joy that is Krispy Kreme to Midtown Atlanta for nearly a year,” Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme, said in a prepared statement. “The community has shown us so much support and we’ve missed serving them. We’re excited to be serving up awesome doughnuts and joy again, especially during the holiday season.”

Krispy Kreme’s permanent shop on the site will open sometime in 2022. The company plans to retain and refurbish some of the elements and features of the historic shop, including its iconic sign.

  1. This is kinda a prominent location. Certainly we can build something better than a fast foot drive-thru here?

    1. My understanding is that the drive-thru is to be temporary until the permanent site of the new Krispy Kreme is built! sometime in 2022 !!!!!!!
