“This location is now closed,” according to the signage.

“We appreciate your support and patronage over the years and hope to see you in one of our other Rosa Mexicano locations in the future.”

Rosa Mexicano closed without warning December 26, a security guard for the mixed-use development told What Now Atlanta (WNA) on a visit to the Mexican restaurant Tuesday evening.

“We’re just finding out like you are,” she said.

A WNA reader even suggested in an email that “some staff reported to work today to find signs on the doors that the location is now closed.”

The Atlanta location, the “first southern” outpost for the restaurant chain, has since been removed from the company’s website.

Rosa Mexicano opened its Atlantic Station doors in 2006 and was known for its 18-foot high water wall with miniature white Acapulco divers, margaritas, and tableside guacamole service.

The restaurant’s closure is amidst an overhaul of Atlantic Station under its new ownership including an expansion of H&M, a renovation of Victoria’s Secret, and Atlanta’s first 4DX Theater.

  1. We don’t need anymore Mexican restaurants or pizza joints. Perhaps they could bring something interesting other than food. Maybe a sky dive attraction or some other form of entertainment?! Atlantic Station needs more things for families, people, and friends to do.

People have also been saying for years that there needs to be less chain retail! Perhaps a smaller-scale department store like Nordstrom/Lord and Taylor can replace where Strip and Rosa Mexicano used to be…

  2. I suspect this has something to do with the massive expansion Atlantic Station is about to undergo. I knew something was up when they relocated Z Gallerie. Word on the street is that the old Strip Restaurant is going to be torn down and turned into two standalone food and/or beverage locations. AMLI will be building new midrise apartments near the Cirque de Soleil lot. A new office building called T3 Foundry is slated to be built in either either across from Target or acroos from the Wells Fargo building. H&M is “supposed” to be expanded — although that will be interesting to see, especially in the wake of their recent PR flop. And I even hear an Embassy Suites is in the works next door to the Atlantic. So get ready… Rosa Mexicano’s is just the first of big changes in Atlantic Station!
