Crews Friday began installation on a new sculpture on the corner of 10th and Peachtree Streets where the Midtown Spinning Rock (A.K.A. “Rockspinner”) used to be situated.

The new installation, a white pick-up truck being swallowed whole by a slab of marble that looks like Jabba the Hutt, doesn’t seem like it spins.

But parts of it might have in the past.

Rockspinner, a temporary art installation that was on loan, was returned in April after first debuting in November 2013.

“We have a new and intriguing art piece coming this summer to the corner of Peachtree Street and 10th Street,” Midtown Alliance, the organization responsible for the installation, said earlier this year.

Midtown Alliance did not immediately return What Now Atlanta’s request for comment.

  1. Wtf!?! Who’s d*ck did this artist suck to win the corner? Pretty sure you guys said there were art installations from all over the world competing for this and we come up with this?

  2. This is art? Looks horrible to me bring back the rock!!! I think about sums it up….a rock that spins is better than this. At least the rock was interactive. #bringbacktherock

  3. Who decided this so-called piece of art should be placed on such a prominent corner in our city… The rock was bad enough in this takes it to a new level!

  4. I think it’s great! People will be whining, “bring back autoeater!” the next time it’s replaced by something creative and edgy.

  5. I think this looks horrible and doesn’t remotely fit in or enhance Atlanta’s architecture. Who or wth were they thinking anway?!!!

  6. I follow the group here. I like interesting, nice to look at art on such a prominent location. This has no history, relevance, or at least style…. Chicago and every other city is laughing at Atlanta trying……pitiful!
