‘Top Chef’ and Concentrics Restaurants announce name of concept replacing Waterhaven (formerly The Globe) in Midtown.

Chef Richard Blais and Concentrics Restaurants have teamed up to open a new restaurant concept at Technology Square in Midtown.

Today, Eater Atlanta is reporting the Atlanta-based restaurant group announced the restaurant’s name will be The Spence.

Here’s what Blais told Eater was the inspiration behind the name:

We were looking for a word that would describe the spirit of the design and offerings. We all landed on the word ‘larder’ simultaneously. After some research, my wife Jazmin stumbled upon the word ‘spence,’ a synonym for larder. We loved that it refers to a place where families would sit and eat together. In keeping with its many meanings, The Spence will be about the contents of our pantry and coolers, our fantastic purveyors and specialized ingredient sources and sitting down to eat with family and friends.

The Spence is slated to replace the now shuttered Waterhaven Restaurant (formerly The Globe) winter of 2011, according to the report.

  1. And it looks like a marketing company is relocating there headquarters to Tech Square (100 or so jobs) so that should be good for businesses there.
