The parcel of land is the future site of Artisan Yards, a project being taken on by SS Realty Partners, LLC to create a new hub for the creative community in Atlanta. This new hot-spot will include 10 million square feet of retail and entertaining development as well as offices, hotels and living spaces. The buildings could reach a height of over 50 stories high.

According to a video put out by the developer, “Artisan yards offers access to everywhere, within walking distance of most of downtown’s major attractions. The MARTA rapid rail system is less than 200 yards from the site and interstate access is within easy reach.”

The site is currently home to Gourmet Foods International’s corporate headquarters and regional distribution facilities. They are planning to move their operations elsewhere.

The application seeks to change the plot from an I-1 zoning classification to SPI-1 and SA-1 classification. This would essentially open the land up for the development of Artisan Yards.

The Neighborhood Planning Unit has set the public hearing date for November 5, 2020. The rezoning request will be presented before the Zoning Review Board on Thursday either on December 3 or 10 at City Hall.

  1. I believe GFI already moved to Decatur, haven’t seen their trucks in sometime, though they likely still own the property itself. Really would be great to see Whitehall developed from there all the way down through McDaniel to Metropolitan, has been a discussion point for over 2 decades.

  2. It says this is “a new hub for the creative community in Atlanta” but what does retail, entertainment etc. have to do with the creative community? This doesn’t mention art, music or anything else that has to do with creativity.

    1. Good point. There’s supposed to be a Black Musician Walk of Fame installed nearby on MLK, and Northside. Maybe they can try to capitalize on that.
