Called RED, the new restaurant will be open before, during and after Hawks games and other ticketed events beginning February 2012, according to a press release. It will replace Headlines Bar and Grill, Philips Arena’s current restaurant.

RED’s menu, designed in collaboration with Pano Karatassos, president of Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, Levy Restaurants Team and a Hawks and Philips Arena task force, will feature Contemporary American items such as a Crab Cake BLT, Lollipop Chicken Wings, knife and fork steak specialties and a special Signature Burger, according to the release.

“Creating a one-of-a-kind sit-down dining experience that caters to our entire fan base is something that we are pleased to now offer at Philips Arena,” Bob Williams, president of the Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena, said in the release.

The Johnson Studio, an Atlanta-based architect and design firm responsible for the design of Ecco, The Glenn Hotel, Bistro Niko and other Atlanta restaurants and venues, has been hired by Philips Arena to design the new space that will seat 250 guests.

RED will have a tiered level seating within the restaurant and bar space allowing patrons to see the court from inside, a terraced sit-down dining area within the Arena seating bowl for view of the action on the floor and a centrally located show kitchen for guests watch chefs preparing meals.

“By structurally opening up the space, we are providing better views from the restaurant into the Arena and creating a new view into this innovative and exciting destination for fans throughout the Arena,” Keith Schutz, Principal at The Johnson Studio, said in the release.
