The new outpost, at 2511 Blackmon Drive, will be the restaurant’s 34th location, according to the City Barbeque website.

“There are a lot of really good [barbecue] places in Atlanta already and we know that great competition makes us better,” Brian Hipsher, vice president of marketing at City Barbeque, Thursday told What Now Atlanta in an email.

“At City Barbeque, we exist to serve and create happiness and we look forward to serving in the communities our local teams live and work in. Our team is one big happy family who shares common values of backyard hospitality and making competition quality barbecue.”

Founded in 1999 by Rick Malir, City Barbecue serves up meats that are smoked on-site at each restaurant, hand-rubbed with spices, and take upwards of 18 hours to prepare.

“Our employees prepare our sides throughout the day from scratch in the restaurant and give it the same attention they would give to their own family,” according to a statement on the restaurant’s website.

“This is barbecue in its truest form, created by people who are dedicated to doing it right.”

City Barbeque Decatur is expected to open in August.

The corporately-owned chain currently has locations in Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Ohio.
