Building permit application filed for pharmacy in historic olympia building.
Plans to overhaul Downtown’s landmark Olympia Building are underway.
The Georgia Building Authority submitted a building permit application to City of Atlanta earlier this week to renovate the existing three story structure for a new Walgreens Pharmacy.
The site, at the intersection of Decatur Street, Edgewood Avenue, and Peachtree Street, is being redeveloped by CSH-23 Peachtree LLC and Tampa-based firm Encore Real Estate (CSH-23 and Encore purchased the property for $2.2 million in 2013.)
An estimated $3.5 million will be spent constructing the 31,800-square-foot Walgreens, according to the application.
The money will be used for on an “extensive structural update, replacement of the majority of the interior columns, floor and roof slabs, replacement of all storefront windows, and new membrane roof system.”
The flashing Coca-Cola sign atop the roof since 2003 (which Coke reportedly pays $8K+ a month for) will be included in the redesign, according to plans released earlier this year.

That’s funny yall say that because it’s so true. Some people that come in my job haven’t been downtown in years and just get so lost!
Yeah – if you use hipster abbreviations like ITP and OTP ur really cool and smart and everyone worships you – except your other hipster friends who are trying as hard as you to be witty and original. Probably wearing a netted baseball cap like a wanna be redneck thinkin ur all ‘ironic’ when you aren’t even sure of its real meaning… You’re just another clone who has decided to brave their way naively into downtown without a clue and then complains when you and your friends get robbed.
You can keep your crime, ignorance, homelessness, bad schools, and police who all have private security jobs in the evening getting rewarded for the ineffective job they do during the day. Thanks for cleaning up north of I-20, but don’t go patting yourselves on the backs until you do something about English Ave, Vine City and all of ITP South of I-20… Aka no mans land… Didn’t you just lose the Bravos to the OTP crowd because your not really ITP, your specifically just North of I-20 hipsters.
